Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea
Filmscreening
Last Tuesday, our future location, the former Mosaic Workshop, became the setting for a unique and atmospheric evening. Together with FSB and Altus, we screened “Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea”, a beautifully crafted film by Swiss director Beatrice Minger.
Though largely emptied, the Mosaic Workshop still carries the spirit of its history. From the outside, flickering candlelight made the building glow like a lantern. Inside, the scent of fresh popcorn mixed with the hum of voices and gentle background music as locals, friends, and guests gathered in anticipation.
A special film screening at the Mosaic Workshop
After a short introduction by us, and Wolfgang Reul, the film began. Beautiful scenes from Eileen Gray’s house, E.1027, were projected onto the Glasmalerei’s textured walls, creating a striking interplay between film and space. Just before the start, the building’s former owner, Frau Derix, slipped in to join the audience.
Following the screening, conversations lingered under candlelight and music, with lively exchanges about the film and its themes. It was a memorable evening that bridged art, architecture, and community, and a glimpse into the future of the Mosaic Workshop as a vibrant cultural space.
